In the beginning, there was nothing but a great silence; nothing existed – it was the void. There was no breath of wind, no star in the sky, no flower swaying beneath a sun that did not yet exist. There was not even a bird to sing. And suddenly, out of this nothingness, God created Heaven and earth. He brought forth not only the vast blue sky we see above our heads, but also another Heaven, invisible to our eyes, which He filled with Angels – spiritual beings of incomparable beauty and intelligence. Perfect harmony reigned among them, for all adored, loved, and served God with all their hearts.
In the infinite heights of Heaven, where divine light bathed every corner in an inconceivable beauty, a drama of unparalleled intensity unfolded one day. Love is not proven by words alone; it must be shown through concrete and costly acts. In His infinite wisdom, God chose to put to the test the love of His closest creatures – the Angels, beings of pure light whom He had created to adore and serve Him. If they proved victorious in this trial of love, they would behold God, Supreme Love, face to face.
The Creator revealed to the Angels a plan dear to Him: the creation of humanity. These beings of flesh and blood would be of a nature inferior to theirs. He made known His design to become incarnate among them, taking on a physical body to live in their midst.
But this was not all. God, in His infinite love, announced the coming of a Mother – a creature of absolute purity, a jewel of innocence and holiness. This Woman, the Immaculate One, would be the chosen vessel to bring the Son of God into the world.
With reverence, the Angels listened to the divine request. They understood that they were to bow before this Incarnate Son – God Himself – and to venerate His Immaculate Mother. This request, simple in appearance, shook the very foundations of Heaven.
Among the angelic hosts, Lucifer shone with dazzling brilliance. Yet behind his splendor lurked a dark and treacherous shadow. Blinded by his own magnificence, he contemplated his beauty as though it came from himself. The poison of pride crept into him.
How could the Most High love creatures of flesh, prefer them to the Angels, even to the point of becoming like them? Why should such dust share so closely in His life? This thought burned within him more fiercely than fire. The love he had once borne for God turned into implacable and eternal hatred.
And Lucifer rose up against the divine will. His voice, once melodious, became a cry of rage that echoed throughout Heaven, drawing a third of the Angels into his rebellion.
Then Saint Michael arose, the champion of God. He was among the lesser Angels, yet he loved God above all things. Brandishing his sword of fire, he cried out: “Who is like God?” His rallying cry strengthened the faithful Angels. A fierce battle broke out among the heavenly hosts, setting the loyal Angels against the rebels seduced by the demon.
Spears of fire flashed, celestial swords clashed with a deafening roar. But Michael, sustained by the power of God, did not falter. With indomitable strength, he drove back the rebels. In a final assault, he broke through the enemy ranks and confronted Lucifer himself. Consumed with rage, Lucifer uttered a terrible cry that tore through the heavens: “Non serviam! I do not serve… I will never submit!” The legendary duel shook the heavens, until Michael, with a thunderous blow, struck down Lucifer – now Satan – and all his followers with him.
Defeated, Satan and his fallen angels were cast out of Heaven, stripped forever of their glory. Rejected into the hell their pride had brought about, they were condemned to endless torment for having dared to defy the authority of the Almighty. In hell, they suffered extreme torments, and they would never leave it.
Thus, by the hand of the Archangel Michael, the rebellion was crushed and the order of Heaven was restored.
Thus ended the trial of the Angels, showing that true love can flourish only in humility and obedience. The faithful Angels, who had proven their love and devotion, shone with renewed splendor, and the divine plan for humanity could now unfold in all its glory. Prince of the heavenly hosts, Saint Michael the Archangel watched over the universe, ready to fight and overthrow any force of evil that dared to rise against the Most High.
This story, never to be forgotten, reminds us that true love is revealed in trial, and that fidelity to God is the only path that leads to Heaven.
